EASTERN versus WESTERN Astrology
Westerners follow the Sayana
system of astrology and the easterners follow the Nirayana system
of astrology. The main difference in these two systems is in what
is called Ayanamsa. Westerners includes Ayanamsa in their
calculations whilst easterners excludes Ayanamsa in their
calculations.
There are twenty-seven constellations recognised in astrology. The
first constellation is called Asvida. There are twelve 'Houses'
recognised in astrology. The first 'House' is called Aries.
Eastern system of astrology is based on the basis that Asvida
constellation, 'House' Aries and planet Sun commences at the same
point on 12 or 13 or 14 April each year. Many countries celebrate
New Year on one of these three days chosen astrologically.
Western system of astrology
is based on the basis that Asvida constellation, 'House' Aries and
planet Sun were at the same point on a date in the third century.
According to this system "House' Aries traverse but Asvida
constellation remains static.
It is this distance what is called Ayanamsa.
Therefore, Birth Charts prepared on these two systems will vary
significantly.
If you require the Sayana values based on this program, just add
the Ayanamsa relevant for the chosen year.
Another major difference between western and eastern astrology is
in the method adopted in timing future events. Easterners use the
Main
Period, Sub Period and Sub Sub method using the relevant Ruling
Planet. Westerners mostly use progressions with major arc and the
minor arc
playing an import part.
Deciding compatibility of two Birth Charts based on lunar
mansions, auspicious times and naming a child are not practiced by
Western astrologers.
